4        Chair welcomed our demonstrators for the evening – these were our own members – Muriel Spencer-Wilcock, Pat Trueman and Norma Dobney with their title Fun with Flowers.

Muriel opened the meeting indicating that they were going to work through the Alphabet with floral tributes. The ladies used a variety of plant material and beautiful flowers including red and white roses, pink, green and red carnations, lilies, gerbera, lisianthus. Foliage used was aspidistra, helibore, ivy, etc. Each did an individual arrangement with two displays with all three ladies arranging at the same time.

Norma introduced a staging based on ‘Imposed’ flower competitions where competitors are given the same box of foliage and flowers. The three ladies then did three entirely different displays with lovely results.

Norma also gave some training in leaf manipulation using aspidistra and helibore leaves making cones, twirls and then incorporating these into her design with red roses and peach carnations.

For the finale another ‘Imposed’ display was created using stunning white roses, pale green carnations and white lisianthus. The final stage looked really beautiful and the audience was very appreciative.

The vote of thanks was given by Anita Day who gave a thank you on behalf of all present at the skills of our members and the fun and humour of the evening.
