{"id":389,"date":"2012-05-07T00:07:40","date_gmt":"2012-05-06T23:07:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bradfordflowerclub.org.uk\/?p=389"},"modified":"2012-07-07T20:56:58","modified_gmt":"2012-07-07T19:56:58","slug":"may-2012-club-meeting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bradfordflowerclub.org.uk\/?p=389","title":{"rendered":"May 2012 Club Meeting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"center\"><strong>THE BRADFORD FLOWER CLUB<\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><strong>MINUTES OF THE CLUB MEETING HELD ON MONDAY 21 MAY 2012<\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><strong>AT HAWORTH ROAD METHODIST CHURCH <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">In Attendance<\/span> \u2013 there were \u00a076 members and 9 guests in attendance.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>2\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Club Notices<\/span> &#8211; The Chair welcomed everyone to the meeting for our guest evening.\u00a0 The following notices were given out:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Membership renewal letters were available from Vivienne Midgley.\u00a0 The Chair announced that unfortunately this year the committee have to raise the fee.\u00a0\u00a0 We have managed to keep the annual fee at \u00a327 for 3 years but with rising costs of flowers, petrol etc, this coming year the fee will be \u00a329 per year.\u00a0 This still makes the cost of \u00a33 per meeting very competitive.\u00a0 Yvonne asked if members could take letters for those not at the meeting tonight, due to the rise in postage.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Club Trip<\/span> \u2013 The cost for the coach will be \u00a317 (this is a reduction on the original estimate) and the full cost should be paid as soon as possible.\u00a0 Pat and June will be collecting the money at the end of the meeting.\u00a0 Members will pay their own entry costs to Burton Agnes.\u00a0 There are a few places left if any more members or guests wish to attend.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Harrogate Spring Show<\/span> \u2013 Chair thanked the team for all their work in producing a wonderful display.\u00a0 A letter of thanks has been received from the Show organisers complimenting the team on their creative interpretation of \u2018My Town\u2019.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Chair also congratulated Eileen Barraclough in obtaining \u2018Best in Show\u2019 and also the Area Heat for the Nationals.\u00a0 Eileen was wished the best of luck for the Nationals.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Bradford Grammar School<\/span> \u2013 Chair also thanked Jean Mouls and her team: Eulie Henriques, Helen Reynolds and Yvonne Coppin for their efforts in presenting a wonderful display entitled \u2018Olympics\u2019 at the Bradford Grammar School Fair.\u00a0 This had been hard work especially as the team went on to organise 4 workshop (instead of the 3 originally planned).\u00a0 The workshops were very much appreciated.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">55<sup>th<\/sup> Anniversary\u00ad<\/span> \u2013 Chair felt last month\u2019s 55<sup>th<\/sup> Emerald Celebration had been a fitting tribute to the club.\u00a0 Thanks were given to Jean Butterworth for decorating the cake.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Schedules for Harrogate (July) were available; Southport; and other NAFAS events.<\/li>\n<li>Flower Arranger is available from Jean\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>3\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Demonstrators<\/span> \u2013 Chair welcomed Kate Russell and Patti Dawson with their title \u2018Ages of Woman\u2019.\u00a0 The Demonstrators took turns in either reading amusing snippets of poems or short prose or staging the arrangements, which was very entertaining.\u00a0 The team thanked the club for the greenery which had been provided for them.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The first arrangement was done to the music of \u2018The Stripper\u2019 and then Kate was revealed ironing!\u00a0 The theme was the 1950s when women were tied to household duties.\u00a0 Pat then did an amazing white and green shower arrangement echoing a bridal bouquet of the 1950s on top of the ironing board.\u00a0 She used white lisianthus; stocks, spray carnations, white roses, white lilac and clematis.\u00a0 Kate meanwhile read a Pam Ayres poem.<\/li>\n<li>The second arrangement to depict women \u2018going up in the world\u2019 was arranged on a step ladder using pink tulips, alstroemeria, pink\/orange roses and orange gerbera.<\/li>\n<li>Next a tall silver vase was used to depict \u2018women at work\u2019.\u00a0 The team used twisted willow provided by a club member and crystal beads had been stuck onto this and red flowers \u2013 gerberas, alstroemeria and roses used.<\/li>\n<li>A black model draped in black was used next and Kate produced a corsage of greenery on the shoulder using purple\/pink flowers \u2013 pink tulips, red freesia and then a smaller completed arrangement was placed at the foot.<\/li>\n<li>The fifth display depicted \u2018body beautiful\u2019 with 2 flat green displays and using purple aquilegia, purple alstroemeria, michealmas daisy, yellow gerbera, purple stocks, yellow roses.\u00a0 This was cleverly placed on a keep fit step with purple weights to complement the purple flower theme.<\/li>\n<li>The last splendid arrangement was on a huge gold candelabra and depicted \u2018women in love\u2019.\u00a0 Greenery had been arranged in the centre and then the display was draped in trailing flowers \u2013red\u00a0 lisianthus, pink tulips, pink peonies, pink roses and then in the centre were red tulips fully open.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Muriel Spencer-Wilcock gave the vote of thanks for the wonderful evening, stories and flowers we had been entertained to.<\/p>\n<p>4\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Flower Dip<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0The following ladies received flowers in the flower dip:<\/p>\n<p>1\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 J Pearson\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 5\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 J Dimbleby<\/p>\n<p>2\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 J Atkinson\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 6\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Brenda Duckworth<\/p>\n<p>3\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Jean Parkinson\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Marjorie Slinger<\/p>\n<p>4\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 M Lees\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 8\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Brenda Wren<\/p>\n<p>5\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Next Meeting<\/span> \u2013 18 June \u2013 Tony Cleaver will be the speaker with his title \u2018Some Northern Gardens\u2019.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>6\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The meeting closed at 9.00pm and guests were invited to have some refreshments and wished a safe journey home.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE BRADFORD FLOWER CLUB MINUTES OF THE CLUB MEETING HELD ON MONDAY 21 MAY 2012 AT HAWORTH ROAD METHODIST CHURCH 1\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 In Attendance \u2013 there were \u00a076 members and 9 guests in attendance.\u00a0 2\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Club Notices &#8211;
