{"id":426,"date":"2012-11-03T22:37:47","date_gmt":"2012-11-03T21:37:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bradfordflowerclub.org.uk\/?p=426"},"modified":"2012-11-03T22:37:47","modified_gmt":"2012-11-03T21:37:47","slug":"september-2012-club-minutes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bradfordflowerclub.org.uk\/?p=426","title":{"rendered":"September 2012 Club Minutes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"center\"><strong>THE BRADFORD FLOWER CLUB<\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><strong>MINUTES OF THE CLUB MEETING HELD ON MONDAY 17 SEPTEMBER 2012<\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><strong>AT HAWORTH ROAD METHODIST CHURCH <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>1\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">In Attendance<\/span> \u2013 there were 73 members and 7 guests in attendance.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Chair offered a warm welcome to members, guests and those attending for the first time and announced a very full programme of demonstrations and speakers for this coming season.\u00a0 She was pleased to inform us that our membership to the club has held up very well once again for this year with 103 members including six honorary members. We have had 3 resignations due to illness or moving away from the area.<\/p>\n<p>Club news:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A \u00a0revised copy of the Club Rules was available for collection from Vivienne tonight.\u00a0 The schedule would fit snugly inside so you can keep the two together.<\/li>\n<li>Helen and Eulie had agreed to stay on the Committee for this next year and so only the Vice Chair position was vacant.<\/li>\n<li>Harrogate success &#8211; Eileen Barraclough had won 1<sup>st<\/sup> and a second<\/li>\n<li>Jean was taking orders for the Flower Arranger Diaries and Calendars. Members were urged to support these publications as they help to keep down our affiliation fees to NAFAS and it is hoped that the price will remain as last year. Orders need to be in asap. jean would also be taking orders for the NAFAS calendar or diary.<\/li>\n<li>A list\u00a0was available by the Notice Board for our Club Workshop on the\u00a01st December\u00a0Joyce would be leading this workshop with a difference. She would be demonstrating some arrangements but on attendees wpould be free to try out their own interpritations and design something different with her expert help of course. The venue and costings had yet to be confirmed.<\/li>\n<li>Entries for the photo competition are due at the October Club Meeting.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>3\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>Area News<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Photos of the North East Area at Chelsea had been displayed on the screen and a copy of the DVD was available to be borrowed until the next Club Meeting.<\/li>\n<li>A copy of the July Area minutes\u00a0were on the Notice Board.\u00a0 They contained a very interesting report from Jonathan Moseley on the whole Chelsea experience. It was interesting to learn that the team missed out of receiving a Gold by just one point and like the summer Exams this was due to a revised scoring system!!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Dates for your diary were<\/span>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Members Day Sunday 7<sup>th<\/sup> October at the Joseph Rowntree School. Derek Armstrong is the demonstrator and Dulcie Lewis is the speaker. Prices are \u00a320 to include coffee and lunch.<\/li>\n<li>The Area AGM 17<sup>th<\/sup> November once again at Queen Elizabeth Grammar School Wakefield. The AGM\u00a0would be\u00a0followed by a luncheon and a demonstration by Jan Faulkner with her title \u2018Christmas is coming\u2019. Tickets for the lunch &amp; Demo are \u00a314 the AGM is free.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Members were asked to make sure mobile phones are \u00a0switched off and not just put on silent as they can affect the PA system.<\/p>\n<p>4\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Demonstrator<\/span> \u2013 Chair welcomed our Demonstrator \u2013 our own Norma Dobney with her title \u2018Seasons\u2019.\u00a0 Norma introduced her helper Pat Trueman who is a well known club member<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Norma\u2019s first arrangement was produced in a glass bowl with a \u2018dreamcatcher\u2019 made of a wire ring wrapped in wool and sisal.\u00a0 Green springs made from kebab sticks wrapped in felt were placed in the centre with apricot carnations, creamy roses, fresias and white chrysanthemums tieried around the springs.\u00a0 Greenery used was heuchera leaves, variegated ivy and hosta.\u00a0 Eggs on springs made with reel wire around a knitting needle were placed at one side to make a very pretty depiction of Spring.<\/li>\n<li>The Summer season was depicted with a wonderful wedding display on a large metal stand.\u00a0 Large fatsias, tall ferns, large bergenia leaves and trailing ivy set the background for the placement of white Lysianthus, white carnations and beautiful white roses and white gladioli.\u00a0 Three large sunflower seed heads made a striking centre with small green chrysanthemums to break up the white.<\/li>\n<li>The Autumn theme was placed in a large urn and gave us a taste of both autumn and bonfire night with a purple and copper theme.\u00a0 Copper sprayed fatsias, copper firebush and copper aspidistra and strelitzia leaves made a stunning background with pruple gladioli, pink alstremeria, cerise gerbera and pink carnations and pink hydrangea heads for the flowers.\u00a0 A bonfire shape with fireworks was constructed with dried grasses and amazing cobwebs made with glue sprayed on water.\u00a0 A spider complemented the theme.<\/li>\n<li>Norma next arranged a double circle of upright bark with a Christmas theme.\u00a0 She demonstrated how with a few simple flowers placed in the centre at the bottom of the bark and using leylandii, variegated holly, white roses, carnations and a few gold baubles and cones we could make a quick Christmas arrangement.\u00a0 Norma then provided another larger display which she had made previously.<\/li>\n<li>Norma\u2019s last arrangement with a Christmas theme was arranged in a large \u2018V\u2019 shaped glass vase.\u00a0 A single dark pink carnation was then balanced in the vase and a candle with ribbon around its base was placed on the vase in a small container.\u00a0 This was draped with variegated holly, ivy, leylandii with deep inky\/red carnations on one side and orange roses grouped on the other side; orange gerberas, gold baubles and ribbon were draped around the front of the vase to make a stunning arrangement.<\/li>\n<li>We were entertained to music by Michael Ball whilst Norma and Pat set the stage with candles and lanterns lit and with more 2 glass vases to complete the stage setting.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Eileen Barraclough gave the vote of thanks and Norma was thanked for a lovely evening and wonderfully set stage.<\/p>\n<p>5\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Flower Dip<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The following ladies received flowers in the flower dip:<\/p>\n<p>1)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Kathleen Thomas\/ Dorothy Watmough\/ Imelda Barker\/ June Oddy\/ Anita Day\/ Maureen Wilson\/<\/p>\n<p>S Hayton\/ Carol Holdsworth\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>6\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Chair thanked everyone for attending and an invitation was given for tea and biscuits.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Next Meeting<\/span> \u2013 The\u00a0next meeting is on the 15<sup>th<\/sup> October when our demonstrators would be Christine Hutchinson and Susie Marsh with their title <strong>MIX AND MATCH .<\/strong> \u00a0Chair wished everyone goodnight and a safe journey home<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE BRADFORD FLOWER CLUB MINUTES OF THE CLUB MEETING HELD ON MONDAY 17 SEPTEMBER 2012 AT HAWORTH ROAD METHODIST CHURCH &nbsp;
