June 2011 Club Minutes

Minutes of the Meeting of the Bradford Flower Club held on Monday 20th June 2011 at Haworth Road Methodist Church:

Our Chairman gave Members and guests a warm welcome to our June meeting. It was hoped members had been able to collect their Area Newsletter and new schedule for the coming season. Doreen was thanked for putting together another varied programme of demonstrators and speakers.

Congratulations were given to Brenda and Stuart Duckworth as they celebrated their Golden Wedding on the 3rd June. It was also reported that Catherine Kime would not be renewing her membership as she was moving to Warwick.

A few places were still available for the Club Workshop on the 2nd July. Details would be forwarded onto attendees once received from Eileen.

Members were informed of Area dates as follows:

The Area had arranged four events to raise money for Chelsea 2012. Two unfortunately had passed but there was still plenty of time for ‘Floral Sensations’ by New Dimensions on the 16th / 17th July at Kath Doggett’s home at Nether Poppleton.

On Tuesday 18th October at Country Baskets there is a special evening for club members with Jonathan Moseley doing the demonstration.

Any donations from our Strawberry Tea following the AGM on the 11th July will also be sent to Area as part of BFC ongoing contribution to Chelsea.

The club has also received some raffle tickets which Area is selling for Chelsea 2012. The first prize is two entrance tickets to Chelsea with overnight accommodation and the second is two entrance tickets to Chelsea (no accommodation). Members were asked to speak to Yvonne afterwards if they were interested in a ticket. They are £1.00 each.

A few other dates were read out for member’s diaries:

On29th June, Area Luncheon at the Golden Lion Hotel in Northallerton. Tickets are £25 and the speaker is Aurthur Dulcie Lewis with a title called ‘Down the Pan’.

Leeds Flower Show is on the 6-7th August at Leeds Grammar School.

There are still places available for the NAFAS National Show in Torquay from the 22-24th September. The garden party starts at 2pm and at 7pm there is a concert with ‘musical youth’. Providing a full days entertainment. On Sunday the church is open once again 12- 4pm and then there are Songs of Praise at 6pm.

On the Notice Board also are details about the Magical Fairy Tales Arthur MacDonald was referring to at our last meeting. This is at Hoghton Tower near Preston on the 29th Sept to 2nd October.

Members were also informed that the PHOTOGRAPHIC COMPETITION was back by popular demand after our first toe in the water trial last year.

This year there are 3 categories:

A holiday shot.

Sunset, Water or other seasonal shots.

And back once again, as we had some wonderful entries in this category last year a single flower or leaf.

Entry forms were available from the Notice table. The cost is £1.00 for each entry and this year you are not limited to the number of entries. Entries close at our September meeting. Results and prizes will be announced at our Christmas meeting.

Members were  asked once again for new blood to come onto the committee. Current committee members were willing to stand for the next year providing members ratify it at the AGM. But there were at least two vacancies. The proposal committee members agreed at our last meeting was to invite club members to volunteer to join us. You will not have to take on a specific role. All we ask is that you see what is involved to keep the club running and perhaps then volunteer for a place on the committee.

Anne Drake was  welcomed to the meeting. She was our Speaker for the evening with her title Faberge Jeweller to the Tzar.

The Vote of thanks was given by Muriel Spencer Wilcock. Everyone was thanked for attending and reminded that our next meeting is on the 11th July. This will be our AGM which will be only very short and then our demonstrator will be Sue Spencer with her title ‘Quintessentially English’ followed by a strawberry supper.
