Review of the September Demonstaration

1      Demonstrator – Norma Dobney with her title ‘Seasons’.  Her helper was Pat Trueman another club member

  • Norma’s first arrangement was produced in a glass bowl with a ‘dreamcatcher’ made of a wire ring wrapped in wool and sisal.  Green springs made from kebab sticks wrapped in felt were placed in the centre with apricot carnations, creamy roses, fresias and white chrysanthemums tieried around the springs.  Greenery used was heuchera leaves, variegated ivy and hosta.  Eggs on springs made with reel wire around a knitting needle were placed at one side to make a very pretty depiction of Spring.
  • The Summer season was depicted with a wonderful wedding display on a large metal stand.  Large fatsias, tall ferns, large bergenia leaves and trailing ivy set the background for the placement of white Lysianthus, white carnations and beautiful white roses and white gladioli.  Three large sunflower seed heads made a striking centre with small green chrysanthemums to break up the white.
  • The Autumn theme was placed in a large urn and gave us a taste of both autumn and bonfire night with a purple and copper theme.  Copper sprayed fatsias, copper firebush and copper aspidistra and strelitzia leaves made a stunning background with pruple gladioli, pink alstremeria, cerise gerbera and pink carnations and pink hydrangea heads for the flowers.  A bonfire shape with fireworks was constructed with dried grasses and amazing cobwebs made with glue sprayed on water.  A spider complemented the theme.
  • Norma next arranged a double circle of upright bark with a Christmas theme.  She demonstrated how with a few simple flowers placed in the centre at the bottom of the bark and using leylandii, variegated holly, white roses, carnations and a few gold baubles and cones we could make a quick Christmas arrangement.  Norma then provided another larger display which she had made previously.
  • Norma’s last arrangement with a Christmas theme was arranged in a large ‘V’ shaped glass vase.  A single dark pink carnation was then balanced in the vase and a candle with ribbon around its base was placed on the vase in a small container.  This was draped with variegated holly, ivy, leylandii with deep inky/red carnations on one side and orange roses grouped on the other side; orange gerberas, gold baubles and ribbon were draped around the front of the vase to make a stunning arrangement.
  • We were entertained to music by Michael Ball whilst Norma and Pat set the stage with candles and lanterns lit and with more 2 glass vases to complete the stage setting.
